🌽 Farmers Market Volunteer Opportunities
Get you volunteer hours and support our troop.

Two shifts per market are available:
7:45 AM-10:45 AM
❗10:30 AM-1:00 PM - We need at least TWO adults and FOUR Scouts.❗
We need a minimum of four Scouts and two adults per shift.
Scout must wear Class As.
Bring a chair and water.

🛶 Harpers Ferry Adventure Center Campout
Troop 847 will travel to Harper's Ferry Adventure Center for a campout November 1 - 3, 2024. During this campout Scouts will participate in ziplining and the ropes course. Please visit the website above to read requirements and limitations prior to RSVPing. Anyone under the age of 14, must have an adult on the course with them. If your Scout is under the age of 14 and you do not wish to attend, please check with Mr. Troyer to ensure an adult will be on course with your Scout prior to paying.
Because we have to pay and reserve tickets in advance for zip-lining and the ropes course, the DEADLINE TO RSVP IN SCOUTBOOK WITH PAYMENT IS DUE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30. Harper's Ferry Adventure Center does not offer refunds; therefore, the Troop will not be able to issue any refunds for this trip.
The cost of this trip is $125 per Scout and $10 per adult (if adults want a ticket for ziplining or ropes, tickets are $48.34 for each activity). This will cover the cost of the campsites, ziplining for 2 hours, the ropes course for 2 hours, and food for Saturday/Sunday breakfast.
📝 Fall Merit Badge Day
BSA Troop 440 in Silver Spring, MD is hosting its Fall Merit Badge Day on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024.
The link to register for Fall Merit Badge Day will go live on the Troop 440 website (https://troop440md.weebly.com/) at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11.
Scouts can choose among 14 merit badge classes: 6 in the morning session (9 a.m. to noon), 7 in the afternoon session (1 to 4 p.m.), or the Radio merit badge class that runs through both sessions. The cost is $15 per class and there is an optional $8 lunch provided from noon to 1 p.m.
Merit badges offered include Eagle-required merit badges (Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the World, Communication, Cooking, and Environmental Science), STEM merit badges (Programming, Chess, Photography, and Radio), and some merit badges you don't see that often (Bugling and American Business).
The event will be held at Saint Bernadette School (located across the street from Montgomery Blair High School) at 80 University Blvd East, Silver Spring, MD 20901.
🏅Court of Honor
Our Fall Court of Honor will be on December 16, 2024 at 7:00 PM at the Tabernacle United Methodist Church.
☀️ Summer Camp @ Camp Powhatan
Troop 847 has scheduled our annual summer camp at Camp Powhatan, Blue Ridge Scout Reservation in Hiwassee, VA, from June 15 to June 21, 2025.
Camp Powhatan has a traditional Merit Badge program for all ages, also offering the Brownsea Island program for first-year scouts and the Eagle's Nest Eagle-focused program for older Scouts. Powhatan offers a full schedule of evening activities and adventure opportunities, and features exciting program areas including Nature, Handicraft, Scoutcraft, Shooting Sports, and Aquatics.
Please RSVP in Scoutbook at your earliest convenience. We will need adult leaders too.
🛶 New River Experience at Summit High Adventure Camp
We’re excited to announce Troop 847 has booked our trip for the New River Experience at Summit High Adventure Camp from July 27 to August 2, 2025. The cost for this adventure is $1295 per person. Please review the requirements and limitations before paying.
We have room for one more Scout!
To secure your place on this trip, make a deposit of $185 by October 7th. Payments can be made via Cheddar Up or by giving cash/check to Jen. This trip is non-refundable.

Troop 847 is located in Chancellor, Virginia and is sponsored by the Methodist Men of Tabernacle United Methodist Church located at 7310 Old Plank Road. The Troop meetings are held every Monday night 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. at the Chancellor Community Center located at 7300 Old Plank Road .
The Troop, a diverse group of boys, has been sponsored by the Methodist Men of Tabernacle United Methodist Church for over sixty years. The Troop, its leaders, and the Parent Committee maintain a close relationship with the Church and the Methodist Men. The Church provides meeting space and budgetary support.
Our troop enjoys monthly adventures including camping, hiking, pioneering, orienteering, backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, summer camp, community service, and other exciting activities.
